Humor... Innate or Achieved?

I used to not be funny, but now I think I am. Don't get me wrong, I have always had a good sense of humor. A good laugh has always been one of my favorite things in life. But I did not have the gift of making people laugh until my mid-twenties. In my young, sweet and innocent days I tried to make jokes, but they went over like lead balloons. The more life experience I earned, the funnier I became. I hate to say it, but the biggest setbacks in my life paved the way for my greatest jokes. Lately, I am almost to the point of despair. Don't worry, I said almost. And I have come up with some jokes lately that impress even me! And I am my own worst critic. So, my question: Humor. Life's merit badge?
